Educational activities

Aside from social activities, CODON also offers educational and career related activities. Below, you can find examples of educational activities organized by CODON.

Thesis market

During the thesis market, you have the opportunity to talk to multiple chair groups and find your next thesis topic!

The thesis market is a yearly activity held on campus around period 4 in February. It always starts with a short presentation to clarify the whole thesis procedure at the WUR. The thesis market is also for students of molecular life sciences, bachelor and master.

Excursions

During excursions, students can discover interesting companies within the biotechnology sector.

We have excursions to different companies. From biorefinery to pharmaceuticals and more! Don’t forget our yearly excursion to our main sponser, MSD Animal Health!

Once a year, CODON organizes an international excursion. Along with a lot of excursions to international biotech comapnies, it also includes cultural excursions.

Symposia

Symposia are the perfect way of broadening your view on (biotechnological) topics!

During a symposium, experts on a topic will give a short lecture. After that, a discussion will often follow on that topic. Our symposia are open to all WUR students and staff.

In the past, we’ve had symposia on, for example alternative protein sources and AI in the life sciences.

Lunch lectures

During lunch lectures, students can learn more about a company while enjoying a delicious lunch.

Lunch lectures are the most accessible way for our members to discover new companies.

Someone from a company comes to campus to tell a bit about their own biotechnology journey, the way their company operates and if they have any (internship) vacancies.

Career event

The career event provides the perfect oppurtunity for students and employers to meet each other.

During this evening, employers from different (biotechnology) companies have their own stand where they can shown what their company does. Our members can find the companies they’re most interested in to have a chat. Maybe this is the place where they will find their internship!

PhD evening

During the PhD evening, PhD candidates tell our members about their PhD project and experiences doing a PhD. Ideal for students who are considering doing a PhD after obtaining their masters degree.

PhD candidates from different chair groups are invited to speak about their PhD project. This way, eveyones interests are covered at least once. During the presentations, students have the oppertunity to ask the PhD candidates questions. The evening will end with some drinks.
