Committees

At CODON we have many committees. The people in a committee often become a close group of friends and organise all the great activities for our members

IntegraCie 100%
Axie 80%
BiotECs 50%

BiotECs

The biotECs consists of first year students only, so we all know each other. Each period we organize an activity for our fellow first year Biotechnology students. For example, the Labjasborrel and Mario Krat. Our goal is to create a bond between them and make them feel at home. Once a week we have a fun meeting and this commission isn’t a lot of work, so it is easy to combine with your study.

Axie

The Axie is one of the bigger committees of CODON. They organize various events throughout the year to have biotechnology students meet and get to know each other outside of the lecture halls and laboratories.

The Axie is responsible for a lot of non-study related activities. Like parties, BBQ’s and bowling. We aim to organize around 10 activities per year. To organize these activities we meet every wednesday. These meetings are always a highlight of the week because next to the serious stuff there is also room for some laughs and gossips.

BussCie

The busscie is the committee that is in charge of activities related to businesses. The activities that are currently organised by this committee are businesstalks during the lunchbreaks and excursions. The type of companies that are approached vary regarding their field of expertise, yet all are related to biotechnology of course. The committee’s main goal is thus to organise educational activities and get the members associated with companies, where there are possible workspaces in the future after finishing their degree.

DomiboCo

The average CODON member drinks a lot of beer, so much even that a regular Thursday night does not even have enough hours to fill that bottomless pit. Because CODON members are really smart people, a small group decided to start drinking at 5pm in the University to quench their everlasting thirst. This tradition escalated and thus, the DomiboCo was born.

The DomiboCo is a group of CODON-members that takes it upon them to transform a dreadful classroom in the Forum building into a pub with the most amicable atmosphere in all of Wageningen. Here, the DomiboCo organizes the drinks, snacks and a different theme every gathering. We stand behind the bar dressed with beautiful bowties, so that CODON-members can join us for a drink.

EJWCie

The EJWcie is the committee which organises the yearly first year weekend, a weekend exclusive to first year biotechnology students. It is organized by first/second year biotechnology students. The weekend is there for you to get to know the people of your study. There are lots of activities during this weekend, of which at least one should fit to your liking. The activities have a wide range from a beer cantus to sports. This weekend is a great way to start of your first year of biotechnology.

IntegraCie

The IntegraCie, based on the enzyme Integrase. We facilitate the mingling between CODON and the associations in other cities! You might wonder, why would we want to do this? You can meet different people, from a different background. You can see and go out in another city without worrying about how to get home! We will rent a bus that’ll bring us to the other city and back! We have biweekly meetings that’ll increase when the activity nears.

KCC

Although the KCC may not seem the most exciting committee of CODON, they are actually pretty cool! The KCC (Kas Controle Commissie) looks after the treasurer. They check whether the treasurer does not transfer all CODON money to his/her own bank account and form an organ to which the treasurer can turn if he or she has questions. The KCC consists mostly of old treasurers or other former board members but everybody that would like to look more into the finances of CODON is welcome to join!

MasterCie

Being the first international committee of Codon, our mission is to catalyze social interaction and academic networking among the bio-community in Wageningen, including Biobased Sciences, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Master Students.

MBSCie

The MBSCie represent the students from the Master Biobased sciences at Wageningen University. This new master focusses on the transition from a fossil based to a biobased ecomomy.

We want to facilitate the transition to a sustainable future based on the principles of circular economy and the blue economy. Innovation, collaboration and entrepreneurship are key aspects to make this system change possible.

Key in enabling this transition is collaboration and sharing of knowledge between different sectors. To achieve the climate goals of the Paris agreement, we must act right now with fundamental changes. The future is our responsibility. We as students and in the near future young professionals, can change the system and work together to achieve a sustainable world.

OUR GOALS

Connect students to young professionals and companies to explore our future work field.

Organize inspiring lunch talks, visit progressive and innovative companies and organize other events that highlight biobased innovation and entrepreneurship.

OuderdagCie

The OuderdagCie organises the ‘ouderdag’, a day where students of the BSc Biotechnology can take their parents and give them some more insight on what the study is all about. The day will consist of a lecture, a tour on campus and some practical work in the lab. An ideal opportunity to show off to your parents what you have learned so far, while away at university.

PRCie

PRcie is the CODON committee responsible for all public relations accountments. As the importance of media and information maintenance is of great concern, PRcie is there to provide simple yet accessible solutions, to the satisfaction of all CODON members. With its various subcommittees specialised in different fields of public relation affairs, we try to keep up a well structured organisation in order to make this possible.

These range from the development and maintenance of the website to the overall data management of all IT aspects concerning members and non-members, ensuring everyones’ needs will be met in a formal, functional, yet visually pleasing way. (WebCSSi)

This too, includes the management of all social media platforms. Conclusively, PRcie is responsible for the official Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram (SocialMediaCie). Furthermore, providing photographers that will be present at CODON events to create content for all social media accounts by fellow biotechnology students who carry their responsibility doing so with great passion. (FotoCie)

In addition, with PRcie being the backbone of the communicative aspects between CODON and its members, promotion material must be provided. Therefore PRcie, takes position in the design and creation of promotion material like Facebook banners, posters, and aesthetically pleasing instagram posts. The subcommittee responsible, makes sure the overall design accommodates both the event and our image as CODON, taken into account for whether events are formal or not. Responsible and innovative design is the key motivation. (GrafischDesignCie)

To yield more insight in PRcie’s sub-committees and its members, an overview will be provided below, including the email addresses of all chairmen of the subcommittees and other contact info.

PubCie

The PubCie is responsible for all the CODON goodies you see around. From the pens you write to the hoodies you wear, everything starts with an idea at the PubCie, and we make those ideas come true!!

SportCie

CODON-anthem is ear deafening and everybody shivers when the feared CODON-red sport shirts step on the field, because CODON-Members are not only awesome drinkers, but also the most competent athletes of the WUR. This is not only because CODON-Members have the strongest genes, but also because they have the best Sportcie to lead them in the world of student sports.

As the Sportcie, we organise a few big sporting events for CODON throughout the academic year. We also organise some smaller sporting events throughout the year. Thymos takes care of a lot of different activities on the Bongerd, so our job as Sportcie is also to inform CODON-Members about these activities. Furthermore, the Sportcie arranges a group of CODON-Members to participate in the ONCS (Open Nederlandse Chemie Sportdagen), this way CODON does not only dominate the WUR, but also the whole student sports community in the rest of the Netherlands.

StudCie

Everyone is eventually here for one reason, to study Biotechnology. You probably have already seen us before, as we try to get upcoming students to study Biotechnology and give them information about the study itself. But that’s not all that the Study Committee (StudCie) does. Next to the open days, the Student-for-a-day programs and other days we try to inform students, we also try to maintain the quality of the study. If a course is not satisfying in any way, then it is up to us to try to make a difference.

But that’s not all. We would not be part of CODON if we did not try to organize fun and educative activities, such as excursions to biotechnological companies or lectures from inspiring people in our field. We also have parent’s days once in a while, where you can show your parents what it is like to study biotechnology. They will be given some presentations and practicals to give an insight in your life.

WeekendCie

The CODON weekend is a fantastic weekend filled with laughs, drinks and entertainment. Together with all you CODON friends you will enjoy the spring weather and join in the activities that the WeekendCie has organized for you. Whether you’re a WUR old-timer or a young freshman, you will have an amazing time. The goal of the weekend is to get to know everyone  and most importantly have a great time. The weekend starts on Friday evening and will be done by the end of the day on Sunday. We hope to see you there!
